Caramel-Covered Goo Nummies

I haven't the slightest. Really. What was this that I ate? Some Vietnamese equivalent of ground pork in mochi, but so much gooier and unpleasant. In the end, I pretended to eat them as my too-attentive waiter watched, then snuck them out in a napkin. Surely a seagull or brown bear was the lucky recipient of this garbage.
